Anti-SARS-CoV-2 ELISA IgA, IgG tests
02.04.2020Test for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies
The new Coronavirus is causing a pandemic. It is highly contagious and spreads with ease in many regions of the world, including Poland.
Because of that further decceleration of the spread of infection caused by SARS-CoV-2 has become a main focus of many countries around the entire globe.
In order to prevent further spread of the virus it is advised to test potentially infected people in the early stage of the disease. According to WHO guidelines, a PCR test is used. This test is conducted in Poland by SANEPID and laboratories chosen by the Ministry of Health. The tests should be performed immediately if an infection is suspected or symptoms are observed.
Afrer a week since the observation of first symptopms the sensitivity of PCR gradually decreases. In such case, a key role is played by serology tests, used as complementary tests to the PCR.
Centrum Diagnostyki Laboratoryjnej has decided to introduce Anti-SARS-CoV-2 ELISA IgA, IgG tests into its offer. The tests are targeted a
- people who have lived through the infection without symptoms, but can be a source of infection for other people
- people who have had contact with SARS-CoV-2 infected people, but do not meet the criteria for getting a PCR test
- people who are at high risk of being infected (hospital staff, etc.)
- people who are under a quarantine (in order to decide to end or prolong the quarantine)
- people who have compliactions caused by a recent flu or flu-like infections
Remember: detection of characteristic SARS-CoV-2 antibodies of the IgG class is possible after 10 days since the first clinical symptoms appear. In case the test is conducted earlier, its results are likely irrelevant.
